Quiz localisation in Captivate 12.3

Why?

In my career I have done a lot of localisations of eLearning courses. Quizzes used to be rather easy in previous versions (without audio). I had a set of Preferences, and a Theme where I adapted the quizzing master slides if necessary. Those two tools got me a long way for translation, and manual work was reduced to a minimum.

My intuition told me that the New Captivate was not coping with localisation that well, since I already have issues with shortcut keys on my non-US keyboard. The example project which you can view here has been ‘on my desk’ since several weeks. Multiple users requested answers about localisation on social media, this is the first (limited) attempt to explain workflows.

I used Preferences (which can no longer be exported/imported) in a project where you can choose for questions in two languages. Due to problems with the CSV  in French (my second language) I was not able to offer a third language. The 7 questions are identical, one attempt on question and quiz level, No Review nor Retake is possible. Reason is the missing Branch aware functionality. I will post a full-fledged output example in one language later on.

In later blogs I will explain the workflows, and list the missing features to facilitate those workflows, including links to feature requests/bug reports in the uservoice platform. If you find some of them useful, you could support them.

Example projcct

I would recommend to use F11 to view the output in full screen. As you may know, rendering projects in the new Captivate is slow, so be patient if it is not appearing right away!
